Pakistan, Thailand to enhance military ties - Defense - Pakistan - Asia - Thailand


ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Thailand have desired to enhance defence cooperation with each other with main emphasis on training of the armed forces’ personnel of the two countries.



It transpired in a meeting of the visiting Thailand’s Deputy Commanding General National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI), Lt Gen Taraton Sriyabhanda, with the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Tariq Majid, at Joint Staff Headquarters on Friday.

Gen Taraton Sriyabhanda who is visiting Pakistan to identify modalities and formulate framework for affiliation of National Defence University of Pakistan and NDSI, Thailand, exchanged views with the Chairman CJCSC on defence matters with emphasis on cooperation in military training between both countries.

While discussing mutual relations, the Chairman CJCSC said that Pakistan considered Thailand as an important country of South East Asia and the cordial bilateral relations formed an important organ of “Vision East Asia Policy”. “Pakistan, therefore, is keen to further strengthen its relationship with Thailand in order to fully harness the potential for cooperation, which exists between our two countries,” he said.

He also appreciated the support given by Thailand for Pakistan’s entry into ASEAN Regional Forum as well as Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) and expressed hope to have similar support for Pakistan’s candidature of Full Dialogue Partnership of ASEAN. He also offered training of Thailand officers in Pakistan Armed Forces institutions.
